it will never be beautiful, it will never have the same feel of a living, breathing engine. That's how a steam engine is seen, as a living thing as its breaths, needing oxygen for the fire, the coal feed the fire, its fire is its heart and unlike diesel and electrics a steam engine has moods, one day it may run fine, the next it might have a mood and make the drivers work harder. A steam engine has a soul.

All a diesel and electric is is just push a button and your off, nothing else, there is no soul in them.

Yes, the steam engine has a soul, that's right.

I, and my 3 best friends working on the strongest hungarian built diesel-electric historical engine at the hungarian railway museum. Only 10 built, and only one remained... It's still unworkable, but some things from the electronics can work. Before one years started we this process, and we build-up the electric system 70%, from the death. If i turn the main swithc, i feel the locomotive wants to live, and he is glad, because we do not let it die. This is a beautiful feeling.

In hungary, in some city, gthe locomotive-driver have "own" locomotive. These peoples knows their own locomotive, and and work well together. Beetwen humans and macihnes can be friendship, or hatred. I love all locomotives, because i belive: all locomotive has soul. Soul does not come from the different techniques. Steam or Diesel/Electric. It does not matter. :)
